Resources and inspirations:
The engine is highly inspired by PyroJoe's recipe for beginners and consists of three sections - intake, combustion chamber, exhaust. For my exact design plan and dimensions you can reach me at my email address - jerebicakevin at gmail dot com.
work setup
We developed it together with my friend to have some fun before the end of summer. Unfortunately we found a local business selling pure propane tanks right after desperately getting a tank mixture of propane-butane. And we didn't test the engine with pure propane yet.
First naive mistake we made is thinking we could make perfect pipes ourselves by bending 1mm inox metal sheet (colinfurze style) - as well as stick weld them with 1.6mm electrodes.
With perfect machined pipes of 2mm cutting and welding was a lot easier.
welding of the combustion chamber to the exhaust
Discs connecting the pipes together were cut out from the 1mm inox sheet we had left with an angle grinder. The 50mm and 40mm diameter holes inside the discs (for the intake and exhaust) were made with Greenlee-style punch tool since the angle grinder is too big for them.
On the first run (off-camera) the injector was a simple copper pipe - untouched. Then we also tested a copper pipe with the end cut at a 45 deg angle and another one with the end semi-closed and four small holes. Both worked really well.
half-assed injectors
For air intake we first tried a leaf blower and eventually settled on our home compressor. Here are two clips:
